LOOK: Ole Miss basketball signee Malique Ewin posterizes defender
Berkmar (Ga.) High School center prospect and 2022 Ole Miss basketball signee Malique Ewin and his teammates take the floor tonight at Duluth (Ga.) for a district away game.
The 6-foot-9, 220 pounder has helped Berkmar off to a 16-5 start overall and a 9-0 start in 7A Region 7 play. Earlier this week, though, in a 76-39 blowout win over Dunwoody (Ga.), the future Rebel really made a statement.
Ewin got the basketball in transition and decided to just take care of things himself, dribbling coast-to-coast and absolutely slamming one home on top of some poor defender’s head.
Berkmar is working to get their way back to the 7A title game where they lost last year to Milton. Heading into the new year, Ewin was averaging a double double, scoring 18.5 points and grabbing 10.5 rebounds per game. Head coach Greg Phillips spoke with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about how Ewin’s skill set makes him such a talented prospect.

“Obviously he’s a very special player because of how versatile he is,’’ Phillips said. “He can go inside. He can handle the ball. That makes him tough to guard every night.’’
Ewin’s athleticism is something that will be welcomed for the 2022-2023 season once Ole Miss says goodbye to Nysier Brooks in the front court after this season. Kermit Davis and his staff will certainly miss his presence around the rim on both ends of the floor but hope that the signee from Georgia can step in and compete right away.
The 13th-ranked center prospect is a part of a signing class that also includes four-star TJ Caldwell and three-star Robert Cowherd, ranking 9th in the Southeastern Conference. That is certainly not going to stack up, man-for-man with the likes of Kentucky, Arkansas and Alabama, but the skill sets that will arrive in Oxford should compliment the current roster well.
