LOOK: Ole Miss basketball kicks off the Chris Beard era with ninth annual Square Jam
Games are over a month away from beginning but the historic downtown Oxford Square served as the unofficial kickoff to the Ole Miss 2023-24 basketball season on Friday.
In front a packed crowd surrounding Oxford City Hall both the men’s and women’s Ole Miss basketball teams were formally introduced, including first-year Rebels head coach Chris Beard. Both beard and women’s head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin spoke to the crowd before kicking off the event.
Over the course of the hour-long fan event both teams competed in a skills competition, three-point contest, tic-tac-toe and a game of ‘knockout’ to kickoff the evening’s festivities.
Men’s guard Cole McGrath took the first contest, winning knockout, with Mariyah Noel and partner Brady taking the title in tic-tac-toe. Marquesha Davis displayed her athletic ability by claiming the skills challenge, while Elauna Eaton and Robert Cowherd went head-to-head in the finals of the three-point challenge, with Eaton claiming the crown.
