LOOK: Ole Miss’ Fraser Masin has one of college football’s cushiest jobs
Fraser Masin won’t be used much at all by Ole Miss this season if Lane Kiffin has anything to say about it.
It’s nothing personal; just philosophy. Few coaches in college football go for it on fourth down as much as Kiffin. Offenses generally want to end a drive with a kick — extra point, field goal or punt. Kiffin could do without the last one.
Punting in his high-octane, fly-down-the-field attack is, in many ways, failure.
“I come from Australian football where I’m out there for the whole two hours,” Masin said after practice this week. Masin was an SEC Player of the Week last season. “Now you’re really out there maybe a couple times.”
The Rebels tied for ninth nationally with 36 fourth-down attempts last season. But Masin’s good with it.

“I have full trust in coach Kiffin,” Masin said. “He has vastly more knowledge than I do in the game of American football. If he decides it’s a situation to go for it, we’re all better for it. I just know I’m there on third down ready to go. If he wants me, I’m there.”
Practice Report: A little deeper dive into the Ole Miss black jersey situation
Masin is from Brisbane, Australia, and going into his third and final Ole Miss season.
He was granted an NCAA waiver in the off-season granting him another year.
Masin became interested in American football through the movie ‘The Blind Side,’ which tells the story of former Rebel offensive lineman Michael Oher. Masin averaged 42.5 yards per punt last season. Ole Miss opens the expectations-filled 2024-25 campaign August 31 against Furman.
“What’s most different for me is just finally comfortable being in America — coming from overseas and culture and teammate-wise,” Martin said. “Something as simple as transportation and getting around. Just felling really comfortable in myself and who I am now as part of this team and what my role is.”
