LOOK: Ole Miss secured the Pavilion’s longest winning streak (10) against Vanderbilt

Jaemyn Brakefield was bound to cool off.
Brakefield, the third-year Ole Miss forward, shot a little over 62 percent from the field in the Rebels’ previous six games. He made nearly 57 percent of his threes, while averaging 20.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals. Brakefield scored a career-high 28 points in Ole Miss’ record-breaking blowout of Florida earlier this week.
He needed his teammates to pick him up Saturday against Vanderbilt. But unlike the previous two seasons, when Ole Miss won a combined seven SEC games, Brakefield had the supporting cast to do just that.
Matthew Murrell — who, like Brakefield, is one of just four returning players off last season’s roster — had a game-high 24 points as one of three Rebels to score double-digit points in a 69-56 Rebel win. Ole Miss improved to 15-1 (2-1 SEC) on the year. Vanderbilt fell to 5-11 (0-3).
Murrell made 9 of 17 from the field, including six of his 12 threes, and his six rebounds tied transfer center Moussa Cisse for the Rebel lead. Cisse is one of two 7-footers rostered by the Rebels.

Two other transfers, Allen Flanigan and Jaylen Murray, added 16 and 12 points, respectively. They tied for third in rebounding with five apiece. Brakefield had a more muted four points, three rebounds and two assists. He only attempted five shots, making two, in 22 minutes.
Ole Miss secured the Pavilion’s longest winning streak (10) in defeating the Commodores.
