LOOK: Ole Miss toppled No. 18 Baylor with the seventh postseason shutout in school history
Ole Miss softball opened NCAA Tournament play with an impressive, 3-0 shutout of No. 18 Baylor on Friday.
Catelyn Riley was dominant in the circle, while Lexie Brady brought the firepower with a two-run home run, as Ole Miss blanked the Bears to open the Salt Lake City Regional.
“I was just proud of how we came back,” head coach Jamie Trachsel said afterwards. “We have a lot of confidence, and I thought it was one of our most complete games in a while.”

The Rebels (31-26, 8-16 SEC) picked up their ninth shutout of the season and just their seventh ever in the postseason. Only four other teams have held Baylor (39-17, 8-10 Big 12) scoreless this season.
Along with Brady’s blast, Paige Smith dazzled in falling just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Riley, meanwhile, retired 13 batters in a row at one point. She earned her fifth win over a ranked opponent and allowed all of three hits in her 6.1 innings.
The Rebels will take on the winner of Utah and Southern Illinois on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
