LOOK: Ole Miss women’s basketball promotes Hopp, welcomes newcomers

Ole Miss women’s basketball has promoted Ashton Hopp from graduate assistant to special assistant to the head coach.
Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin made the move on Tuesday.
It was her latest in a busy off-season for the Rebels, who also welcomed newcomers this week, among them transfers Tamelya Sadler (Colorado), Starr Jones (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) and Christeen Iwuala (UCLA).
Another was freshman guard Sira Thienou. Thienou represented her native Mali in the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s Baksetball World Cup in Spain last summer. She averaged 15.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in the tournament.
“Sira is dynamic guard and will impact us immediately,” McPhee-McCuin said. McPhee-McCuin led the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24, their third consecutive appearance. She’s just the second head coach in Ole Miss history with 100 or more career wins.

“(Thienou) is a three-level scorer and has the perfect length for our defensive system.”
Hopp split the previous four years evenly, as a manager, between Ole Miss and Kansas. She’s assisted with daily program operations as a Rebel, as well as handled all equipment and gear.
Hopp is active throughout the Oxford and Ole Miss communities. She’s a campus representative for FCA and founding member of ‘Grow the Game,’ which was created in 2020 to connect current and former student managers.
