Ole Miss quarterback Luke Altmyer will head for the transfer portal.

Add another Ole Miss player to the transfer portal next week as quarterback Luke Altmyer announced his future plans on Monday.

Altmyer released via his Twitter account his intentions to leave Ole Miss and enter the portal, looking for a new home to finish out his collegiate career.

The quarterback is the fifth Ole Miss player to enter the portal since the regular season concluded last Thursday.

Part of a quarterback battle that lasted six months and into the first few games of the regular season, Altmyer lost out on the starting quarterback job to transfer Jaxson Dart. The two alternated starts in Ole Miss’ first two games before Dart got the nod ahead of the Tulsa game.

“Thank you Ole Miss. These past two years have been nothing short of life changing,” Altmyer’s statement read. “It has always been a dream of mine to play for this great state and the place I call home. The experiences and lessons I’ve learned and shared are priceless.”

Altmyer was a highly recruited four-star prospect out of Starkville, Miss. He was originally committed to Florida State but Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin got Atlmyer to flip from the Seminoles to the Rebels as part of the 2021 signing class.

Last season Altmyer provided key backup minutes to Matt Corral. Most notably in the Sugar Bowl after Corral suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter. Altmyer also played a couple key drives against Auburn last season when Corral left the game, also for an ankle injury.

Through two seasons at Ole Miss Altmyer finished with a 52 completion percentage, completing 28 of 54 attempts for 371 yards and three touchdowns.

Altmyer played in only three games this season, leaving him the option to redshirt this season and provide an extra year of eligibility.

With Altmyer now heading for the portal it leaves Ole Miss with Dart and backup Kinkead Dent as the two quarterbacks on the roster for the upcoming bowl game.
