Must-See Highlights: Luke Hill’s full-circle moment powers Ole Miss over Tennessee

Luke Hill had a full-circle Ole Miss baseball moment on Saturday.
Hill blasted his seventh home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning against No. 5 Tennessee. As he rounded third to come home he turned to the Volunteer dugout and flashed the Ole Miss logo across his chest.
“Fastball up, I just swatted at it and it went over the wall,” Hill said. “That’s it. I just went up there and was like, ‘I’m going to get after it first pitch.’ He left it up there and I was able to capitalize.”
Hill transferred to Ole Miss from Arizona State in July of 2023.
His debut season couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. He wasn’t hitting and his defense at short was suspect. Adding insult to injury were social media screenshots circulated in February of what appeared to be Hill ripping into his new school.
The solve was simple: Hill put his head down and went to work — both as a player and in rebuilding trust in and around the Ole Miss locker room.

By season’s end he was one of Rebel baseball’s few success stories. Ole Miss suffered through the second of back-to-back losing seasons since winning its first-ever national title in the summer of 2022.

Hill finished strong and didn’t get back into the portal like Andrew Fischer and Liam Doyle.
Now he anchors — and is the de facto captain of — a contender.
The No. 6-ranked Rebels (27-8, 9-5 SEC) evened its series with Tennessee (30-5, 9-4) with an 8-5 win. Hill extended his hit streak to 13. He’s hitting over .400 with 20 runs, 12 RBI and 12 walks during that span.
“It’s a little bit different,” Hill said of playing against Fischer and Doyle. “Just got to take it and move on. At the end of the day we’re competitors and we’re trying to get after it. We have the same goal in mind and that’s win. We put that first before everything else. Later on we’ll do whatever. Right now it’s about winning.”
