Mikeal Brown-Jones injury update: What is the Ole Miss forward's status for Alabama?
The one question that is lingering over the Ole Miss men’s basketball team is the injury status of Mikeal Brown-Jones as the meat of the Southeastern Conference season gets underway this week.
On Monday the availability report prior to Tuesday’s game at No. 4 Alabama was released, providing an upgrade to Brown-Jones status. The report listed him as “Questionable” and an improvement from the previous two games where he was unavailable.
Brown-Jones has been in concussion protocol, which Rebels head coach Chris Beard confirmed on Saturday after the LSU game. On Monday, Beard provided a new update and whether his forward will be ready for Tuesday in Tuscaloosa.
“I think it’s probably one of those possible deals,” Beard said. “He’s gotten back to the practice floor for us so that’s a great step. Can he improve enough to play tomorrow night at 6 o’clock? I don’t know.”
The Crimson Tide will be down two players and possibly three come tipoff against Ole Miss on Tuesday.

Guards Latrell Wrightsell, Jr. and Houston Mallette are listed as ‘Out’ for the top 25 matchup while freshman forward Derrion Reid is listed as ‘Questionable.’
Wrightsell is currently Alabama’s fourth-best scorer with 11.5 points per game, playing in eight games and starting five of them before rupturing an Achilles tendon last month and will miss the rest of the season.
Mallette has played five minutes since being out for a game against South Dakota State on December 29 with what was reported as an “illness.” According to Alabama head coach Nate Oats Mallette is also dealing with an issue with both his knees.
When it comes to Reid, he is battling an ankle injury that has kept him limited. He re-aggravated it during a practice last month. Reid is averaging 8.1 points per game and played in 15 of the Tides’ 16 games this season.
