CAN OLE MISS FLIP JAHEIM OATIS?

Ole Miss has been working for months to turn Oatis, the No. 78 overall player, and the No. 11 defensive lineman, in the country, according to the industry-generated On3 consensus. Ole Miss got him on campus twice in as many months, first for a game-day visit, and later for a quick weekend stop before he participated in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game last week.

Oatis has been committed to Alabama since April. While the Rebels made up significant ground (so much so, they’re the only viable option to the Crimson Tide still standing), sources indicate Oatis is likely to stick with his pledge and sign with the Tide on Wednesday.

WHERE WILL DERRICK MOORE LAND?

Moore, an On3 consensus four-star defensive lineman, visited Ole Miss and Michigan last week, with the Wolverines receiving his final trip. Michigan is favored, but Ole Miss has a real shot for myriad reasons, not the least of which, his former high school coach is on staff under Jim Harbaugh, creating a potential waiver/eligibility issue.

Sources were split Wednesday night on where Moore, the nation’s No. 87 overall player and No. 12 defensive lineman, ends up. His position coach at St. Frances Academy is former Ole Miss defensive end Wayne Dorsey, and his one-time prep teammate, Demon Clowney, is currently on the roster. He’s one to watch.

WHAT ABOUT DAVISON IGBINOSUN?

Igbinosun, the On3 consensus four-star defensive back, sent the Ole Miss online community into a tizzy late-Wednesday. The No. 193 prospect in the country tweeted out a graphic featuring Igbinosun and his brother, who plays for Rutgers, in Scarlet Knights uniforms.

The panic was short-lived. He followed with graphics of his other three finalists (Ole Miss, Tennessee and Kentucky) as well, and Ole Miss sources remain confident he’ll end up a Rebel in the end. Family matters, though, and Rutgers has always been considered the primary threat. He was committed there and Rutgers is just an hour from his hometown. He visited Ole Miss over the weekend. The Rebels came away believing he was theirs to lose.

Time will tell. Igbinosun could sign in the next three days, but he won’t make his decision public until the All-American Bowl Jan. 8.

DOES OLE MISS LEAD FOR JARON WILLIS?

The On3 consensus four-star linebacker de-committed from Georgia Tech last week. Ole Miss, in turn, immediately emerged as the favorite to pick him up.

The Rebels, who never stopped pushing hard for Willis despite his pledge to the Yellowjackets in May, currently hold a projection percentage of 94 percent to Ole Miss from the On3 RPM (Recruiting Prediction Machine). However, Willis announced a final four of Ole Miss, Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi State, with Arkansas appearing to be the biggest threat to the Rebels’ chances.

Bottom line: Ole Miss is expected to win out here, and if the Rebels do, they’ll be picking up their first four-star high school linebacker since 2017.
