#notcommitted: Early transfer targets and other Ole Miss recruiting matters
The Ole Miss football regular season is the rearview, and now the Rebels turn to the post and silly seasons, the latter of which is sure to include plenty of drama both on the recruiting trail and in coaching circles.
Actually, Ole Miss has already been impacted, as in-state rival Mississippi State has hired former Rebel offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby as its next head coach. Does Lebby’s arrival change anything with four-star Starkville wide receiver Braylon Burnside? Who are the early transfer-portal names to know?
The Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett and Zach Berry have you covered in an all-new edition of #notcommitted.
“I imagine it’s going to be heavy in the trenches,” Berry said, when asked of the Rebels’ upcoming portal pursuits. Holy Cross offensive lineman Luke Newman, for example, got in on Sunday and could be a target.
“I would imagine this Ole Miss staff is going to go after at least one or two offensive linemen — experienced guys that have played a lot somewhere. There are some names popping up out there, some big-time offensive linemen. There’s some Ivy League guys that are graduated looking to go play at the Power 5 level. There’s some Patriot League guys out there that are graduating and getting their names out there to get on the market and try to go play a one-year stop-gap before the NFL.

“And I think Ole Miss is probably going to look for an EDGE and/or an interior guy. I’d imagine they’re going to look for some big-time targets up front. They’ve got a loaded 2024 defensive line class, but it’s really hard to count on those true freshmen to play right away in the SEC.
“So, I think they’re going to go heavy up front in the trenches and then at least a corner or two and probably a big-time receiver.”
