Now What? Ole Miss basketball has severed its rainbow connection with Kermit
Ole Miss men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis has been fired, as announced on Friday.
“We thank Coach Davis for his dedication to the Ole Miss basketball program and our student-athletes,” Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter said in the school’s official release. “No one wanted to bring a title home to Mississippi more than him, and we appreciate the passion for that goal that he shared with our team every day.
“As he has throughout his career, Coach Davis worked tirelessly to produce a winner, and we wish him, Betty and his family the very best in the future.”
Rebel assistant coach Win Case will serve as acting head coach for the remainder of the season.
Davis spent five seasons as Ole Miss head coach and compiled a 74-79 overall record. The Rebels have posted a 10-18 (2-13 SEC) mark this year.
Davis was announced as the 22nd head coach in program history in March of 2018. He led the Rebels to a 20-13 finish, which earned Ole Miss its ninth all-time NCAA Tournament berth. Davis was the 2019 SEC Coach of the Year.

Davis’ only other Ole Miss postseason appearance was the NIT in 2021.
“My family and I are extremely thankful for the opportunity to lead the Ole Miss men’s basketball program the past five years,” Davis said in the release. “We appreciate Chancellor Boyce, Keith Carter, the staff and players for their support and work ethic on behalf of our program, and I wish Ole Miss the best going forward.
