Oh, Dear: A recruiting-heavy Flagship after Ole Miss landed nation’s No. 2 RB
Ole Miss football over the weekend secured a second commitment for its 2025 recruiting class.
The Rebels might soon need a bigger boat.
Because they made a splash in reeling in Akylin Dear, ranked by On3 as the No. 34 overall recruit and No. 2 running back. Dear’s the No. 2 player in Mississippi.
“Another Derrick Henry, or better,” Dear told the Ole Miss Spirit following his commitment, when asked to describe his game. “I’m physical with a lot of power. Fast (and) I can catch.
“Whatever you need me to do, I’m going to do it.”
Dear could be just the start for Lane Kiffin and Co. as they attack a loaded in-state class this cycle.
Good thing, too. It seems Ole Miss fans will need the distraction after baseball got back to its losing ways with a weekend sweep (in Oxford!) at the hands of SEC-leading Kentucky.
The Rebels are 9-30 against SEC teams since winning their first-ever national championship in the summer of 2022.
“This is when (baseball) tests you,” head coach Mike Bianco said Sunday. Ole Miss was coming off its third run-rule loss for the Rebels in their last six conference games.

“When you’re awful and you play bad and you don’t feel good, can you stick together and continue to fight? We’re at the halfway point. Before today 28 games and 28 games left and about 75 percent of your conference games left.
“A lot of opportunity, but if we don’t play better, it’s really not going to matter how many games you’ve got left.”
