Ole Miss and Mississippi State will play the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night once again
The holiday season is all about tradition and while this specific tradition draws varying opinions the Egg Bowl showdown between Ole Miss and Mississippi State will in primetime on Thanksgiving once more.
The Southeastern Conference announced on Thursday the annual Egg Bowl will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT on Nov. 23 and air on ESPN. Ole Miss and Mississippi State will play the rivalry game on Thanksgiving night for the 32nd time in the series history and the sixth time since 2017.
The 2020 edition of the Egg Bowl took place on a Saturday as part of the restructured schedule due to the COVID Pandemic.
This season’s matchup will mark the 120th meeting between the two teams dating back to the first game during the 1901 season. Ole Miss holds the edge in the series with a 64-47-6 record.
Ole Miss has won two of the last three and came close to having a 3-0 Egg Bowl record under head coach Lane Kiffin but lost to the Bulldogs, 24-22, to close out the 2022 regular season.
The Egg Bowl is currently the only game on the Rebels 2023 schedule that has a kickoff time announced. Ole Miss opens its 2023 schedule in 100 days hosting Mercer on Sept. 2.

Ole Miss is predicted to have a 2023 season similar to last year according to ESPN’s FPI ratings.
Favored in nine of the 12 games Ole Miss has an average win-loss range of 7.6-4.4 according to the FPI rating.
Ole Miss will have to buck the trend if it wants to close out 2023 in a better bowl game than it did last year, losing to Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl in Houston.
Of the nine games Ole Miss is favored in five of them are SEC games, including the regular season finale in Starkville. The other SEC games the Rebels are expected to have a chance in are Arkansas, at Auburn, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.
The only game the experts in Las Vegas have weighed in on so far involving the Rebels is the trip to Tuscaloosa where they have Alabama a 15.5 favorite four months out from the Sept. 23 kickoff. The Rebels have a 10.4 percent chance to take down the Crimson Tide in their home stadium, according to the FPI.
