Ole Miss' Angel Baker wins 2023 Gillom Trophy

The top women’s college basketball player in Mississippi once again wears an Ole Miss jersey.
On Monday the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame announced Rebel guard Angel Baker as the winner of the 2023 Gillom Trophy, making her the to women’s collegiate player in the state.
Baker was named a finalist for the award alongside Mississippi State’s Jessika Carter and Southern Mississippi’s Domonique Davis.
The Ole Miss senior is leading the team in points with 15.1 per game to go with her 5.5 assists per game which ties Tyia Singleton for second best on the team. Baker has eight 20-point games this season and eclipsed the 2,000-point mark for her career this year.
Following up her SEC Sixth-Woman of the Year season in 2022, Baker elevated her game to increase her scoring by 36%
“She is a vet on our team and we’re depending on it to help us go to this next step,” McCuin said of Baker last this past weekend during the SEC Tournament.”

This is the third straight year an Ole Miss player won the Gillom Trophy after not winning for its first 12 years of existence.
Shakira Austin won it the previous two years, becoming the first Rebel player to win the trophy named after former Ole Miss legend Peggie Gillom-Granderson in 2008.
Ole Miss is heading to its second straight NCAA Tournament bid after a 20-plus win regular season that includes the first 11-win SEC season for the first time in 31 years.
Baker helped Ole Miss earn the No. 4 Seed in the SEC Tournament for a second straight season, but the Rebels fell to No. 1 South Carolina in this past Saturday’s semifinal round.
The Rebels will wait to see their name pop up on the screen during this Sunday’s NCAA Tournament selection show. The full tournament field will be announced at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
