Zach Berry (OMSpirit.com) of the Ole Miss Spirit is joined in this Tuesday (October 29, 2024) edition of ‘The Flagship,’ powered by College Corner and Homefield Apparel, by college football analyst Michael Felder.

The Ole Miss offense just hasn’t been the same this season. Felder and Berry try to figure out the root cause of the Rebels’ issues. Up next is a road trip to Arkansas, where Ole Miss has historically struggled. The Rebels are 2-13 all-time there.

No. 19 Ole Miss (6-2, 2-2 SEC) and Arkansas (5-3, 3-2) kick off in Fayetteville Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.

“They always play tough,” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said. He became the fastest Ole Miss coach to 40 wins in school history with the Rebels’ 26-14 win over Oklahoma. “I think even playing them at Alabama they seem to play tougher at home. We’re going to have to play really well.”

Ole Miss has the top-ranked scoring defense in all of college football.

However, the Rebels are faced with the unique challenge this week in Arkansas dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green. He’s totaled 2,451 all-purpose yards so far.

“Definitely discipline,” Ole Miss linebacker TJ Dottery said of containing Green. “Everybody doing their job and staying on their assignment rather than getting antsy and wanting to go get a sack.

“Just being able to stay disciplined and do our job. He can run really well once he gets out of the pocket. He’s really good at making defenders miss and getting extra yards.”

Ole Miss, of course, will counter with third-year starter Jaxson Dart.

Dart leads the nation in passing yards (2,695). He’s added 15 touchdowns, just three interceptions, and completed 70.6 percent of his passes.

“He’s gotta graduate sometime,” Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman said of Dart. “You got to get out of there. (He’s) just outstanding. The thing that you don’t really realize with him, or maybe you do. But his ability to run, man, he can throw. He’s got (Patrick) Mahomes-like stuff. I’m comparing the magic throws that he makes because he can make them.

“He’s the type of guy you want leading your program.”
