Ole Miss to host Kentucky catcher Austin Fawley for midweek visit

Kentucky catcher Austin Fawley is set to officially visit Ole Miss Tuesday. The redshirt freshman from West Palm Beach, Fla., played in just 10 games in 2024, hitting .222 with two home runs, a double and five runs batted in.

Prior to redshirting in 2023, Fawley played for the Boynton Beach Buccaneers of the South Florida Collegiate Baseball League. There he was named Rookie of the Year. He hit .288 with a .933 OPS. The portal prospect smacked three doubles, one triple, three home runs and finished with 17 RBIs.

Before arriving in Lexington, he lead Park Vista (Fla.) to a district title in 2021. Perfect Game ranked him as a top 500 player nationally and 101st-ranked player in Florida. Furthermore, he was also a 2022 PG Preseason All-America.

Ole Miss landed a commitment from Isaac Humphrey Monday.

In 2024, Humphrey hit .311 and finished with 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 40 runs batted in. He slugged .563 and posted a .417 on-base percentage. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound prospect did not play in 2021 but burst onto the scene in 2022. Humphrey hit .328 and smacked 15 doubles, a triple and five home runs. Also drove in 38 runs, scored 44 and stole 11 bases.

Ole Miss’ first portal commit was BYU catcher Collin Reuter.

The Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection hit .265 with 10 home runs, 28 walks, eight doubles and posted an .860 OPS. In conference, though, Reuter hit .311 BA with eight home runs and an impressive 1.054 OPS.

Ole Miss catcher Eli Berch entered the transfer portal earlier this month. Aside from Reuter, the only catcher on Bianco’s roster is Campbell Smithwick. Could Fawley be next?

Humphrey joins three other portal commits.

During his four-year career at Illinois State, Luke Cheng hit .270 with 99 hits, 14 doubles and a home run. In 366 at-bats, he only struck out 71 times. In 2024, Cheng played in 16 games and hit .373 with 11 runs batted in. He slugged .431 and had a .522 on-base percentage.

“I’m pumped and excited to get to Oxford and get to work,” Cheng said. “It’s definitely a special place with some special people and I’m looking forward to getting Ole Miss back to where it belongs!”

The Rebels also landed UNO outfielder Mitchell Sanford. Sanford is a rising redshirt senior. He hit .381 with 15 home runs, four triples, 21 doubles and 68 RBI last season. Joining him is Illinois outfielder Ryan Moerman. He is a career .276 hitter for the Illini. In three years he totaled 31 home runs, 21 doubles, 104 runs batted in and finished with a .530 slugging percentage. Despite hitting just .259 in 2024, Moerman blasted 19 home runs and finished with 53 RBIs.
