Velvet Ditch Dispatch: Basketball sizzles as baseball fizzles over an eventful Ole Miss weekend
In our newest podcast series at Talk of Champions, powered by College Corner, I am joined weekly by Grayson Weir to recap the weekend and look ahead to the week in Ole Miss sports.
On this episode, we recap the up-and-down weekend for Mike Bianco and Ole Miss baseball. We also discuss the nail-biting victory for Ole Miss hoops, Coach Yo and the women’s basketball team’s overtime win over Mississippi State and softball’s hot start.
Is baseball’s lackadaisical season opener something to panic about? Grayson and I go into the box score and discuss what happened in Honolulu. Then, we look ahead to the midweek matchup against Arkansas State and weekend series at home versus High Point.

Both basketball programs had good weekends.
Chris Beard and Co. held off a feisty Missouri team Saturday, keeping pace with others on the bubble. Coach Yo and the Lady Rebs also grabbed a dub Sunday, defeating Mississippi State in overtime. We talk about the rest of the schedule ahead of both Rebel programs and what has to be done to secure a spot in the Field of 68 next month.
Lastly, we close the show talking about the red hot softball team which is off to a 9-1 start. Jamie Trachsel’s bunch is off to Clemson, S.C., this weekend for another tournament. The Rebels have won nine-straight after an opening season loss to BYU.
