Ole Miss women’s basketball is on the verge of clinching the No. 3 seed in the SEC.
The Rebels (20-7, 10-4 SEC) have won 20 games or more for the 21st time in program history. They whipped Missouri on Tuesday. Next in their three-game week is trip to Kentucky on Thursday. Tipoff in Lexington is set for 6 p.m. CT.
Ole Miss has won four straight SEC games. The Rebels are looking to become the first team in school history to win 12 SEC games in a regular season. They’ll take on Arkansas in Oxford for their regular-season finale on Sunday.
“I’m just really proud of our team,” Ole Miss head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin said after the Rebels’ 66-45 win over the Tigers.
Ole Miss simply would not be in such strong postseason position without its breakout year from senior guard Marquesha Davis.
Davis, this season, has taken her game to another level. The Rebels have needed it, too. Ole Miss, team-wide, has been bit time and again this season by the injury bug.
Fortunately, Davis has been there to pick up the slack. She was named as a finalist for the Gillom Trophy on Tuesday as a result.
“(Davis) is a bucket,” McPhee-McCuin said earlier this month. Ole Miss is currently being projected by ESPN as a seven-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
“I remember when she went into the portal (from Arkansas), I saw her film, and I was unsure. She didn’t have a motor. I sent it to one of my former assistant coaches and he said, ‘If you don’t get that girl, you’re crazy.’ It was one of the best decisions I’ve made since being here.”

The Gillom Trophy has been presented annually since 2008 to the most outstanding women’s basketball player in the state of Mississippi.
The award honors Ole Miss All-American Peggie Gillom-Granderson. An Ole Miss Rebel has won it in each of the last three seasons, including Angel Baker in 2023. Davis is joined by fellow finalists Jessika Carter (Mississippi State) and Domonique Davis (Southern Miss).
Davis is averaging a team-leading 13.9 points per game this season. Ole Miss has won 10 SEC games for the third straight year, while Davis has totaled six 20-point outings during the Rebels’ SEC slate.
“‘Q’ is a unique character,” McPhee-McCuin said. “She’s a silent assassin. She doesn’t say much, but she’s super intelligent. If you give her a second, what she’ll say will be profound (and) intelligent, because she is that.
“She’s going to have a bright future.”
