Ole Miss drops slightly in latest College Football Playoff Rankings

The chance for a Southeastern Conference title or a National Championship ended for Ole Miss this past weekend but it does not mean the College Football Playoff rankings are useless to it now.
Despite falling to Alabama and losing the small glimmer of hope to overtake LSU for the SEC West crown Ole Miss still needs to keep an eye on the CFP Top 25 the final couple of weeks.
Keeping close to, or even getting back inside, the Top 10 is crucial to getting a top-tier bowl berth or even maybe backdoor into the New Year’s Six conversation, though the latter is looking a tad doubtful at the moment.
Right now Ole Miss is a near consensus pick for the newly-named Cheez-It Citrus Bowl in Orlando. If that projection stayed true it would be the second trip to Florida for the Rebels in the last three seasons after playing in the formerly called Outback Bowl to cap the 2020 season.

In Tuesday’s latest CFP Top 25 Ole Miss dropped three spots to No. 14 after receiving its second loss of the season.
A minimal slide like that is good for the Rebels with two more chances to secure SEC West wins against Arkansas on Saturday and Mississippi State in a week on Thanksgiving night.
Not that either are signature wins but they can at least get Ole Miss back to a 10-win regular season for a second straight year. A 10-2 Lane Kiffin-led Rebel team would look very appealing to several prestigious bowl committees.
