Grambling transfer linebacker Andrew Jones — the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Year — flipped to Ole Miss from South Carolina on Friday. He was in Oxford for a visit the same day.

Jones, ranked the No. 5 linebacker in the portal by On3, reported offers from Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, USF, and Georgia State, while he heard from over 20 schools. After playing in two games in 2023, he broke out in 2024 and has become a top target for many programs.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder tallied 122 total tackles (57 solo), 20.5 tackles of loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown this season. Jones, who has one year of eligibility left, previously spent time at Memphis.

Jones earned second-team FCS All-American honors this season. His 122 tackles were 73 more than anyone else on the Grambling State team.

Jones signed with Memphis as a three-star recruit in the class of 2021, per the On3 Industry Rankings. He redshirted his first season on campus before appearing in 10 games in 2022. He finished that year with four tackles, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble.

He was a three-star prospect out of John Ehret (La.) where he was the No. 545 overall player in the 2021 class. Ole Miss offered out of high school before Pete Golding arrived in Oxford and now he gets to play for Golding after flipping from the Gamecocks.
