Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons getting some offseason work in with Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle
Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons suffered a UCL injury playing baseball earlier this spring. He exited the series opener against Alabama earlier this month, favoring his elbow. After visiting with doctors the prognosis was determined that the left-handed pitcher suffered a sprained UCL, per OMSpirit’s Jake Thompson.
The decision was made for Simmons not to undergo surgery, but to rehab and get ready for summer football workouts and fall camp. He ends his first season on the mound for Ole Miss with 13 appearances and an earned run average of 3.21. In 14 innings of work he recorded 20 strikeouts and issued 11 walks, giving up seven runs — five of them earned.
But, due to the difference in weight of a baseball versus a football and the slightly different arm motion, he has been able to get back out on the practice field and get some work in. This week, Simmons was back in his home state of Florida working out with former Alabama and current Miami Dolphins wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle.
