Sure, it’s January 23 and spring practice isn’t even close to starting but this is not stopping off-season speculation by the masses. FanDuel have come out with updated odds for the 2024 Heisman Trophy less than a month after last season’s College Football Playoff came to an end. And everyone’s favorite Ole Miss quarterback, Jaxson Dart, is among the early favorites.

Dart will be entering his third year in Lane Kiffin’s system and seems poised for a breakout season. He currently sits at +1800 odds to win the most prestigious award in college football, behind several quarterbacks around the country.

On3’s Dan Morrison likes Dart’s chances as February approaches.

“There were some questions about whether or not Jaxson Dart would return to Ole Miss in 2024, or if he would consider moving onto the NFL. In the end, Dart chose to stay at Ole Miss,” Morrison said. “With that, he’s facing massive expectations in what looks like it could be an incredible season for the program.

“With the expanded College Football Playoff and head coach Lane Kiffin adding tons of talent through the Transfer Portal, much is expected of Ole Miss,” Morrison said. “That includes competing for the Playoff. A huge piece of that is going to come down to Jaxson Dart, who with all of that attention and in an explosive offense, could definitely compete for the Heisman Trophy.”

The Ole Miss offense could be even better in 2024, scary as it may seem.

Joining Dart back in Oxford next season is damn near the entire skill group. Receivers Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins return as well as tight end Caden Prieskorn. South Carolina wide receiver Juice Wells and LSU running back Logan Diggs are also joining the offense. Oh, and by the way, Ulysses Bentley is running it back, too.

Up front, the Rebels have added North Carolina offensive tackle Diego Pounds and Southern Miss offensive lineman Gerquan Scott. Ole Miss is also hoping to add one if not two more offensive linemen in Washington’s Julius Buelow and Nate Kalepo.

Maybe the best thing working in Jaxson Dart’s favor is the 2024 schedule.

Ole Miss avoids both Alabama and Auburn next season and its two toughest games (Georgia and Oklahoma) are at home. Sure, the Rebels will travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU but it’s a completely revamped Tigers team from top-to-bottom. And no Jayden Daniels.

If any Rebel is going to make some noise this year, Dart could be the one to do it. Kiffin loves a balanced approach offensively, but the schedule sets up nicely for Ole Miss to win a lot and for Dart to perform on the biggest stages week in, week out.
