Ole Miss signee Shamaar Darden to report to Ole Miss soon
Tupelo (Miss.) safety Shamaar Darden tells OMSpirit he is set to be in class and with the Ole Miss football program soon.
Despite only playing in three games as a senior due to an ankle injury, Darden still managed to make nine total tackles, three interceptions and two pass breakups. He was ranked as the No. 93 safety in the 2024 class.
As a junior, he made 73 tackles, defended eight passes and finished with three tackles for loss a 13-1 Tupelo program which made it to the MHSAA 6A semifinals. Darden ultimately chose Ole Miss over offers from Southern Miss, Jacksonville State and UTSA, among others
The three-star prospect from just down the road chose the Rebels for obvious reasons.
“I want to stay home and I was tired of waiting,” Darden said. “I think they’re going to put me at defensive back for sure but probably more safety. They like how physical I am and that I am not afraid to come up in run support.”

Oddly enough, he said it wasn’t always Ole Miss who had his eye.
“I actually grew up a Bulldog,” Darden said. “But once I got to know Ole Miss and saw the love they were showing and Mississippi State wasn’t doing the same I fell in love with Ole Miss and forgot about them.”
“I’m running (and) moving around. I prayed and dreamed of times like these as a little kid,” Darden said. “I was (Ole Miss safeties) coach (Wes) Neighbors’ first recruit once he got down to Ole Miss. He sees something special in me.”
