Flagship Reaction: ‘Grove Bowl Games’ will include a hot-dog-eating contest and 7v7
Lane Kiffin has been innovative since day one at Ole Miss. And this weekend, the trend will continue as the 2024 Grove Bowl will have a very different feel to it. The 16-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion, Joey Chestnut, will take part in this Saturday’s ‘Grove Bowl Games,’ Kiffin announced Tuesday.
This year’s spring practice finale will be an all-new format, showcasing skill competitions, an obstacle course, 7v7 and more.
On this week’s edition of “The Flagship”, presented by College Corner, LB’s Meat Market Greg Jones and I react to Ole Miss’ 4D chess approach to the traditional spring game. They talk about Chestnut’s resume, the 9 and 9 in 9 challenge that is sweeping the nation and more.

“I think if you think outside of the box and traditional way of doing things, which I think it’s well known we do, and I think over time the spring game isn’t much value,” Kiffin said. “If you watch people and what they do, unless a coach is on the hot seat and wants to please the fans, very rarely do they run more than a few types of runs and schemes.
“I don’t know if the traditional spring game gives you very much from an evaluation standpoint. I think it was just kind of done because it used to be done that way in the book,” Kiffin said. “NFL doesn’t do that way. So we’ll see what this is like.”
