The 2022 high school football season is finally underway nationwide and a number of Ole Miss recruiting commitments and targets showed out in their season-opening games.

The Ole Miss Spirit, over the course of the year, will provide a weekly deep-dive, insider’s perspective on top performances, scouting reports, highlights and stats on prospects of Ole Miss interest in our new series, Last Friday Night.

THE COMMITS

4-star LB Suntarine Perkins

Raleigh (Miss.) and Ole Miss’ highest-ranked commit were on the losing end of a hard-fought game against Madison Ridgeland Academy (Miss.), dropping the contest by a score of 39-28. But, Perkins was outstanding on Friday, doing it all from just about every position.

Perkins and Raleigh fall to 4-1 on the season.

Next week: Crystal Springs (Miss.), 7:30pm CT

4-star QB Marcel Reed

The beat marches on as the Ole Miss commit and Montgomery Bell Academy continued their winning ways against Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) on Friday, winning 35-21 on the road. Reed was 14-of-21 passing for 195 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 33 yards. Once again, the dual-threat signal caller was dynamic with his feet, throwing off platform and extending plays with his elusiveness.

Reed and MBA are now 6-0 in 2022.

Next week: at Pope Prep, 7pm CT

3-star S Daniel Demery

Demery and Parish Episcopal (Tex.) bounced back after a tough loss last week to upend China Spring (Tex.), 24-16. The versatile defensive back doesn’t get much thrown his way, but he still managed to make seven tackles and defend one pass.

Demery and Parish Episcopal (Tex.) improve to 4-1.

Coleman finished with six receptions for 81 yards and also had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

The four-star prospect and Lincoln East are now 3-2 on the season.

Next week: at Millard South (Neb.), Thursday 7pm CT

4-star S Isaac Smith

The Magnolia State product continues to be a Swiss Army Knife for Itawamba Agricultural (Miss.), helping them dominate Pontotoc (Miss.) to the tune of 49-7. Smith has already run for 600+ yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s also added 200 yards and a score as a receiver as well. Defensively he’s made 32 tackles and has an interception.

Next week: Tishomingo County, Saturday 7pm CT

3-star WR Cayden Lee

The Kennesaw Mountain (Ga.) prospect continued his torrid start as he and his teammates dominated South Cobb (Ga.) last week, 60-6. Lee tacked on another touchdown, pushing his season total to nine in five games.

Ole Miss is still the projected landing spot for Lee who has seemingly elected to focus on his senior season and worry about recruiting later.
