'Lane Kiffin is all about winning': Cortez Thomas commits to Ole Miss, boosts in-state class
Holmes County Central (Miss.) safety Cortez Thomas has kept things quiet all spring and summer. Wednesday he broke the silence, though. The four-star prospect announced his commitment to Ole Miss. The 6-foot, 170 pound recruit chose the Rebels over notable offers from Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisville and Colorado.
OMSpirit talked with him recently about what it is about the Rebels which helped him make the decision.
“Everything with Ole Miss has been pretty good. They let me know they can get me to the next level where I can have a successful career,” Thomas said. “They plan on getting me down there more often, too. I will definitely go down there again soon.”
On3’s Chad Simmons talked with him as well about his commitment.
“At first, I was leaning more towards Mississippi State until the coaching staff changed,” Thomas told On3. “Mississippi State is always a great school to go to, but Ole Miss is more about business and I feel like that’s where I need to go.”

That bond for Thomas starts with safeties coach Wes Neighbors III. The two have developed a sturdy relationship throughout his process. Neighbors laid out the plan for the Rebels’ secondary and how Thomas would fit into that in the future.
“Coach Neighbors, he won me over. Sitting down to talk football, understanding how I like to play and how I fit in their scheme and everything,” Thomas said.
