2025 linebacker Kris Thompson calls Ole Miss 'top choice' after receiving offer on visit
2025 Lipscomb Academy (Tenn.) linebacker Kris Thompson made his way to Ole Miss for the second time over the weekend. The 6-foot-1, 215 pound prospect got a chance to watch the No. 12 Rebels improve to 9-2, but he also got to tour the new Manning Center.
And he got to sit down with defensive coordinator Pete Golding.
“We arrived before the game and got a chance to see the new indoor facility and eat with the coaches and everyone,” Thompson said. “Right away when I arrived the coaches found me and made me feel welcome. That was special.”
After the game, he and his family got a chance to meet with Golding and have a one-on-one meeting. He said it was special from the jump.
“He asked me what he needed to do to put Ole Miss at the top of my list,” Thompson said. “Coach wants Ole Miss to be my choice and he was saying he will do whatever it takes. Afterwards, we just talked about life and other sports I play.”
Jake Schoonover is Kris Thompson’s area recruiter. He got a chance to talk with him as well.
“We talked a good bit about academics, housing, things like that,” Thompson said. “It was nice to be able to have time after the game to talk with him and everyone else. We had a good time and covered a lot.”
Thompson and the Bison played a tough schedule in 2023, facing three Top 25 teams. He wrapped up his junior year with 84 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and a touchdown.

Ole Miss isn’t the only program who’s noticed him, though. Thompson also holds offers from Michigan, Colorado, Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, TCU, Virginia Tech and others.
Kris Thompson’s conversation with Pete Golding certainly opened his eyes, though.
“Ole Miss is definitely one of my top choices,” Thompson said. “That’s a school I strongly consider now.”
The Nashville, Tenn., prospect is currently hearing the most from Ole Miss, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Florida and Georgia. But he has no timeline for a decision set and is done with visits in 2023.
“I will continue to build relationships and see which coaching staffs I fit with and like,” Thompson said. “A decision could come in five months, it could come during the season next year, I don’t know yet. But I do know when it feels like home I will commit.”
