Ole Miss greats Jake Gibbs and Glynn Griffing part of 'Sports Talk with Mississippi Legends' event
Two of Ole Miss’ greatest athletes are taking part in an event that includes many of Mississippi’s legendary sports figures.
Next month Jake Gibbs and Glynn Griffing will participate in ‘Sports Talk With Mississippi Legends,’ an event that will also feature Rockey Felker and Matt Wyatt of Mississippi State and moderated by Mississippi sportswriter Rick Cleveland.
All four of the former Mississippi quarterbacks will discuss their careers as well as their storied lives.
The event will take place at the Multipurpose building Center in Lexington, Mississippi on June 14 and start at 11:30 a.m. CT and is presented by the Lexington Odd Fellows Cemetery and Friends of Lexington Preservation.
Gibbs was a former two-sport athlete at Ole Miss, playing football and baseball. The former All-American helped lead the Rebels to the 1961 Sugar Bowl championship. He also returned to Oxford and coached the baseball team from 1972 to 1990 and finished with 485 career wins.
A quarterback on the 1960 and 1962 National Champion Ole Miss football teams, Griffing earned All-American honors. He played in the 1960 and 1962 Sugar Bowls and the 1961 Cotton Bowl.

Both Gibbs and Griffing have been inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Griffing was part of the 2002 Hall of Fame Class and Gibbs was inducted in 1976.
Along with the panel there will be a memorabilia auction and a boxed lunch and the auction will be overseen by Mack Ginn, a celebrity rodeo auctioneer from Holmes County in Mississippi.
The centerpiece of the auction is a signed baseball Don Larson and Yogi Berra dated October 8, 1956 which was the day Larson pitched the only perfect game in World Series history.
The baseball is from the personal collection of Gibbs and includes a photograph of him with Larson and Berra.
