Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell has early buzz ahead of 2023 NBA Draft. When could he come off the board?
ESPN’s Jonthan Givony and Mike Schmitz released their 2023 NBA Mock Draft on Saturday, taking a look at the names to know from overseas, college and the NBA G League.
The two NBA insiders have Ole Miss junior guard Matthew Murrell going to the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round with the 43rd overall pick.
The former On3 Consensus four-star guard from Memphis, Tenn., and 33rd overall player in the 2020 class had a solid year on a bad basketball team during the 2021-22 season, averaging 12.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Murrell shot 42.7 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from three-point range.
As a sophomore, he scored in double figures 18 times and displayed the explosive athleticism and playmaking ability NBA scouts have obviously taken a liking to.

Murrell recently signed on with Ole Miss NIL group, The Grove Collective, as an ambassador and will be looking to improve his NBA Draft stock even more in the 2022-23 season. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound prospect is an enticing prospect with his ability to run the floor and shoot it well from outside with a quick release. He could certainly continue to improve his defense and show a little bit more off the bounce, but the NBA tools are there for him to be more than a viable option off the bench as a 3-and-D guy in the association.
Murrell was ranked as the No. 7 shooting guard in the country out of high school and the No. 4 player in the state of Florida after transferring to IMG Academy his senior year. He chose Ole Miss over notable offers from Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, Memphis, Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama, Vanderbilt and Illinois, among others.
He’s the highest-rated Ole Miss signee in the modern recruiting era.
