Ole Miss in the MLB: Tim Elko and Doug Nikhazy have big weekends
Ole Miss baseball is making some noise this summer in the majors with one former player getting the call up to the ‘The Show’ and a few others having big starts to their minor league seasons.
Tim Elko is continuing to have a hot bat while Doug Nikhazy had a strong outing on the mound this weekend.
Coming off being named the Carolina League Player of the Month for April, Elko had a strong May and continued it with a big start to June.
In Sunday’s game Elko hit a pair of home runs in the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6-2 win over the Fayetteville Woodpeckers in second game of the day to sweep the doubleheader.
The two long balls give Elko a Carolina League-leading 11 home runs on the season.
Through four games the former Ole Miss first baseman is currently hitting .375 (6-for-16) for the month of June and has six runs batted in to go with the pair of home runs.

Former Ole Miss pitcher Nikhazy had one of his better outings of his season this weekend.
The Akron Rubber Ducks starting pitcher went five innings on Sunday but did not pick up the decision in the 3-1 win over the Hartford Yard Goats.
Nikhazy gave up a run, earned, off three hits while striking out six Yard Goat batters and walked two others. The strikeout tally is the third best for Nikhazy since his start on May 18 where he struck out nine and followed that up with a season best 10 strikeout performance in his May 24 start.
On the season the former Ole Miss ace has a 1-2 record and a 3.55 earned run average in 10 appearances, including seven starts. He has 44 strikeouts on the season.
