The Ole Miss women’s basketball team is coming off a second straight historic season and head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin is close to receiving a new contract for her efforts.

Coming off the heels of the program’s first Sweet 16 appearance since 2007 Ole Miss is reloading its roster and aiming its sights for an even longer stay in next year’s NCAA Tournament.

With the string of success over the past two seasons McCuin has become a top name within the Southeastern Conference and national coaching ranks. With that comes the chance to work out a new contract.

Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter and McCuin are working on that new contract and talks have been progressing well between the two sides, according to Carter who spoke with The Ole Miss Spirit on Tuesday and offered an update.

“We’re still in the middle of them,” Carter said. “We’re having good dialogue back and forth with Coach Yo and her representation. I think we’re getting close to the finish line.”

If and when a new contract for McCuin is announced by Ole Miss it will be the second one in as many offseasons.

After reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007 to culminate the 2021-22 season McCuin received a new contract May 2022.

The now six-year Ole Miss head coach had a base salary of $850,000 for this past season and earned $85,000 in incentives for on-the-court success of the Rebels finishing in the top four of the SEC regular season standings and a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament.

McCuin would have earn $10,000 for a Top 25 finish in the AP regular season poll or $20,000 if the Rebels finish in the top 15 but the Rebels were unable to crack the poll. Ole Miss did finish ranked No. 22 in the final Coaches Poll after the NCAA Tournament.

With McCuin’s current contract she is set to make $875,000 base salary for the upcoming 2023-24 season, but a new deal will certainly see that reworked and more than likely increased.
