Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart honored by SEC after self-described ‘legacy’ win over LSU
Jaxson Dart had just one thing on his mind, really, when he took the ball to lead the Ole Miss offense on its game-winning drive over rival LSU.
“How do you want your legacy to be here?” Dart remembers asking himself.
How does SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week sound?
Dart picked up the shared honors from the SEC on Monday following the Rebels’ 55-49 win over No. 12 LSU.
Dart — who’s in his second Ole Miss season and third in college overall after transferring in from USC two off-seasons ago — had 439 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. The Rebels rallied to down the Tigers despite a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit, and they got it done with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation.
“Hell naw!” Dart exclaimed, in his postgame presser, and after he was asked if he’d ever played in a game quite like Saturday’s back-and-forth affair.
Ole Miss improved to 4-1 (1-1 SEC) on the season. LSU fell to 3-2 (2-1). The Rebels next host Arkansas Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network. Ole Miss improved to No. 16 in the most recent AP Top 25 poll.

Dart added, “That was awesome. Like, one of the funnest moments of my life.”
Dart completed 26 of 39 passes for a season-high 389 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.
He also had 50 rushing yards and an additional score on seven carries.
His rushing touchdown with 5:06 remaining pulled Ole Miss within two. Dart tossed the game-winning score, to star Rebel receiver Tre Harris, with 39 seconds left.
Dart, in the process, moved up to No. 11 all-time in Ole Miss career total offense (5,342).
The 55 points the Rebels produced were the most scored against an AP ranked team in program history. Dart and Co. also tallied a season-high 706 total yards, the sixth-most ever at Ole Miss. Saturday marked the fourth time under head coach Lane Kiffin the Ole Miss offense amassed at least 700 yards.
The Rebels only had two such games prior to his arrival in 2020.
“We had an overwhelming amount of confidence moving the ball all game long,” Dart said. “Before I even went out for the huddle (for the final drive), on the sideline I knew we were going to score. I looked in everybody’s eyes just to see how determined they were and focused.
“Just calm.”
