Ole Miss’ men’s basketball team are down two more players for their trip to the Bahamas this week, making the Rebels more shorthanded than already anticipated.

Newcomers Josh Mballa and Robert Cowherd will not be participating in Ole Miss’ three games after suffering injuries that will keep them out for nearly two months.

Cowherd tore a meniscus in one of his knees and has already underwent surgery to repair it. Mballa sustained a knee sprain and both will be out until mid-September at the earliest.

“Really unfortunate for both Josh and Robert,” said Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis. “They both had made really good progress this summer leading up to our trip to The Bahamas. We expect both to be back before official practice begins. That said we are still very excited to watch and evaluate our team over the next few days and to enjoy a fantastic experience growing together.”

Mballa and Cowherd join Daeshun Ruffin and Robert Allen on Ole Miss’ injured list.

Ruffin and Allen are still rehabbing from season-ending ACL injuries suffered last season. All but Ruffin still made the trip to The Bahamas, according to the school.

Both Mballa and Cowherd were part of Ole Miss’ recruiting class that finished as 12th best in the country, according to ESPN.

This is a critical season for Davis, who is trying to get Ole Miss back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. With injuries to Mballa and Cowherd it will hurt the ability to evaluate what Davis and his staff, especially without Ruffin and Allen also on the floor.

Ole Miss kicks off its three-game trip in Nassau on Monday against Bahamas Select Team at 7 p.m. CT.
