This week is one of the biggest in the history of the Ole Miss football program with its trip to Athens to take on Georgia.

Saturday’s game became even larger after the Rebels (8-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) took care of Texas A&M in thrilling fashion to keep all of its goals in front of them. Now the two-time defending national champion Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) stand in the way of what could potentially be the most special season Ole Miss has had in several decades.

Besides winning out its final three games of the season Ole Miss need a lot of help from teams in and out of the SEC. Tuesday’s second batch of College Football Playoff rankings help clear things up a little more as another week’s results are in the books.

The CFP committee ranked Ole Miss No. 9 in this week’s Top 25 ranking, moving them up one spot from last week’s first rankings of the season.

Ole Miss got some help this past Saturday when No. 15 Oklahoma State defeated No. 17 Oklahoma in the final Bedlam showdown for now. The Sooner were sitting at No. 9 and one spot ahead of the Rebels last week.

Georgia stayed at No. 2 this week. A win over the Bulldogs speaks for itself but the result of the No. 3 Michigan – No. 10 Penn State game could also provide some help for the Rebels.

Though, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is not here for that kind of talk right now.

“Yeah, we don’t ever talk about that. I think that is out of our control,” Kiffin said Monday of CFP rankings. “Start focusing on that, you see a lot of people do that and lose. I actually mentioned to them this morning, just saying since we have so many new players. This is why we don’t talk about it. Don’t mention it. Put it on goals. That is other people voting on something. If you don’t keep winning, none of that matters at all. Worry about that if it ever happens.”
