Ole Miss and offensive staffer Heath Dedeaux offered Murray State freshman tight end DJ Ruff on Monday. The former Pearl River Central (Miss.) prospect played in five games in 2020 for the Racers, making seven receptions for 69 yards. Last fall, Ruff played in nine games and made four receptions for 44 yards.

Ruff, originally from Carriere, Miss., played his high school ball in Mississippi where he received interest from Arkansas, Arkansas State and Princeton before opting for the OVC and Murray State.

He announced he was entering the NCAA Transfer Portal in March via Twitter.

First and foremost I would like to thank Coach Hood and all of the Murray State staff for giving me the opportunity to play football at the next level after high school it has always been a dream since I was a kid! With that being said I have decided to enter the transfer portal with three years plus a redshirt year.

Ruff has also received notable offers from Delaware State, Ouachita Baptist, Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State.

The 6-foot-2, 243 pound tight end transfer recruit played in a run-heavy system in high school and was mostly used as a hand in the dirt tight end who was a lead blocker. At Murray State, it was more of the same as Ruff found himself in an H-Back role, pulling on inside zone plays and helping out in pass protection.

Ole Miss lost Damarcus Thomas and Luke Knox to the NCAA Transfer Portal and Chase Rogers graduated. Furthermore, former On3 Consensus four-star signee Hudson Wolfe is still battling a back injury which happened in high school.

I imagine Ole Miss is looking to bring on someone to provide depth behind Michael Trigg and Casey Kelly.
