Ole Miss is currently looking to heavily overhaul its offensive line and will be doing so without Micah Pettus in 2025.

While it has been reported here at the Ole Miss Spirit by Chuck Rounsaville and elsewhere that Pettus has was dismissed from the team prior to the conclusion of the regular season, the lineman took to social media on Monday to announce his departure but in a different way.

Pettus announced on his Instagram account that he intends to “evaluate” his options of entering the NFL Draft but also hitting the transfer portal while doing so.

“Since I was a child, I’ve dreamed of playing in the NFL and have followed a path to achieve that goal,” Pettus’ statement read. “With that said, I am currently evaluating my options of entering the 2025 NFL Draft while also entering my name into the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. I am proud to be leaving Oxford with a degree from the University of Mississippi, but is true that ‘one never graduates from Ole Miss.'”

Pettus is still listed on the football roster on Ole Miss’ official website as of this story being published.

This season he played in 11 games at right tackle, missing the Oklahoma game. Since red shirting his freshman season in 2021 Pettus played in 33 games as a Rebel. In 2023 he started the first nine games before suffering a season-ending injury.

“In my time in Oxford, the football program has reached new heights and I have had a blast playing football with my brothers,” Pettus’ statement continued. “More importantly, I have grown and developed as a person since my arrival in Oxford. This community has supported my academic progress and enhanced my entrepreneurial spirit.”

Since the transfer portal opened a week ago Pettus is the 10th Ole Miss player to enter and the first starter. He is the third consequential player to hit the portal behind running back Rashad Amos and quarterback Walker Howard. The latter committed to Louisiana late last week.
