Ole Miss passed its first test with flying colors in a blowout win over Mercer on Saturday but next week begins the true test of how high a ceiling the Rebels season can go.

Beyond the simple fact Ole Miss and Tulane are both ranked inside the current Top 25 rankings at No. 22 and 24, respectively, the experts in Las Vegas are also in agreement this will be a tougher test.

The sports books that have released odds for next weekend’s slate of games have Ole Miss as a road favorite but all have opened their lines in the single digits.

Caesars Sportsbook has the Rebels (1-0) as a 5.5-point favorite over Tulane (1-0) while Circa Sports opened its line for the game at -4 in favor of Ole Miss. Circa Sports also set its over/under at 65.5 points.

Ole Miss is coming off its 73-7 drumming of Mercer this weekend and looked impressive in both sides of the football. After the Rebels defense gave up a lengthy touchdown run on its first play of the game the Bears were then stifled the final 57 minutes or so.

The Green Wave opened up its 2023 season coming off the Cotton Bowl victory over Southern California with a 37-17 victory over South Alabama inside Yulman Stadium on Saturday.

“That’s a big challenge,” said Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin of Tulane following Saturday’s game. “Cotton Bowl Champs and coming off of beating the Heisman winner and USC. Going into their place and trying to beat them on the road, a top-25 team, that’s a big challenge this time of the year.”

Ole Miss and Tulane are set to kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT next Saturday at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans. The game will air on ESPN2.
