Ole Miss RB Matt Jones plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Ole Miss Rebels running back Matt Jones announced this week that he plans to enter the Transfer Portal on social media. He plans to play in the Gator Bowl against Duke on Jan. 2.
Matt Jones spent four seasons at Ole Miss. During that time, he played in 23 games and had 59 carries for 308 yards and six touchdowns. That’s 5.2 yards per attempt. He also has four receptions for 12 yards in his playing career. On top of that, Jones has returned kicks on occasion.
Ole Miss signed a four-star running back, Shekai Mills-Knight, in the class of 2025. The Rebels also bring back Logan Diggs and are after another addition to pair with Missouri transfer and former Top 100 prospect Kewan Lacy.
Jones wrote a note in his post announcing the move thanking the coaching staff and Ole Miss fans for his time in Oxford.
“Dear Rebel Nation,” Matt Jones wrote. “Thank you for all you have done for me and my family these past 4 years! Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have been a part of this community and program. To Coach [Kevin] Smith and Coach [Lane] Kiffin, thank you for your guidance and providing me with this opportunity. I will finish the season strong with my brothers.”

“With that being said, I will be entering the Transfer Portal as a grad transfer with 1 year of eligibility remaining! Thank you and Hotty Toddy forever! Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not evil, to give you a future and hope.”
Jones played his high school football at Jackson Prep in Mississippi and was a member of the Class of 2021 where he was not a ranked recruit. He initially joined Ole Miss as a non-scholarship player.
