WATCH: Ole Miss shortstop Luke Cheng posts first multi-HR game in historic Alcorn State rout

No. 6 Ole Miss in 2025 features one of college baseball’s most powerful offenses.
The Rebels flexed their muscles against Alcorn State.
Ole Miss is Top 7 nationally and Top 4 in the SEC in home runs. The Rebels scored a single-game record 29 against the lowly Braves, who’ve lost a ghastly 12 games in a row following the 29-1, run-rule final.
Five of the Rebels’ 23 hits were home runs. They had six doubles and scored in all six innings in which they batted. Their 27 RBI are a new program record, too.
Ole Miss (26-7, 8-4 SEC) plated six in the first and combined for 15 between the fifth and sixth.
“Just proud of our guys,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said. “Obviously we’ve always talked about the midweek challenge. We’ve been on the road, went to Kentucky with a lot of rain, then we get home and go up to Memphis. Be where your feet are was the challenge in the middle of the week. You can’t look ahead; you’ve got to play these games.
“I thought we played real mature. We played relatively as clean as you could. I thought we pitched it well, I thought we hit it well. We played as well as you could in these two games.”

Ole Miss run-ruled Memphis on Tuesday.
The Rebels host No. 5 Tennessee and former Rebels Liam Doyle and Andrew Fischer this weekend.
Freshman Cade Townsend took the mound against Alcorn State with a season-long ERA north of 10.00. He carved the Braves up with a career-high four scoreless innings. Townsend gave up just one hit and tied his career-high in strikeouts (5).
Alcorn State scored its only run in the top of the seventh. Ole Miss shortstop Luke Cheng, a transfer from Illinois State, came into his season season with one career home run. He had two against Alcorn State, his first multi-homer game, and is up to four for the year.
“We did pretty good,” Ole Miss senior slugger Luke Hill said. He was 3 for 3 and scored five runs. “You have to stay within yourself, swing at good pitches they give you, and go about your at-bats the same way. Consistency is a really big thing. We were able to do that and put up a ton of runs.
“So, it was pretty fun for us.”
