WATCH: Ole Miss RHP Mason Morris had a career night with beer showers as his backdrop

An under-the-weather Hunter Elliott on Friday had his first forgettable outing for Ole Miss baseball in 2025.
The No. 17-ranked Rebels are hosting Jacksonville State for three games in their final non-conference series. Elliott had worked at least 5.0 innings in each of his first three starts, all wins. He hadn’t given up a run and a total of just six hits.
Elliott lasted just 3.1 innings and was tagged for four runs on five hits with three walks. He struck out five.
Veteran reliever Mason Morris replaced Elliott in the fourth inning and with the Rebels trailing by two runs. Ole Miss needed a stopper and some length. Morris — who was among the standout pitchers during fall intrasquad practices, as well as in the preseason — was more than up for the task.
He earned his second win of the season with a career-high 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. Only four of the 20 batters he faced reached base. He struck out a career-high seven batters.
“I felt good,” Morris said afterwards. “This fall I was starting some. I was throwing five or six innings. I really don’t think (extending out) made a big difference. The fastball was good. Kept my velo throughout the game. That was another big part.”
Morris’ dominance allowed the Rebel offense to get to work.
Ole Miss scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Four Rebels hit home runs in what was ultimately a 7-4 win, the 11th in a row for Ole Miss (12-1) to start the season.
True freshman sensation Hayden Federico hit his first, while Louisville transfer Isaac Humphrey popped his second. Will Furniss is now up to 13 for his career.

Austin Fawley, a transfer from Kentucky, started at catcher again and hit his third of the season and fifth of his career. Fawley was among the Rebels’ hottest and most powerful hitters in the fall.
“It fired me up, too,” Morris said of the home run barrage. “Getting the lead definitely feels better.”
