Host Ole Miss baseball lives to fight another day in the Oxford Regional.

The Rebels (41-20) hung on for an 8-6 win over 3-seed Western Kentucky (46-14) in a Saturday elimination showdown in the NCAA Tournament. Six of their 15 hits were home runs, a single-game season-high.

Mitch Sanford, Judd Utermark and Austin Fawley each clubbed two apiece. Ole Miss now has four home runs or more in four games this season.

“We’ve scored in all types of ways this year,” Sanford said. “A lot of it has come from the long ball, but that’s just how our offense is built I thought we did a really good job today with, not just our plan, but the attack against the pitchers today. If it comes with a couple of long balls, that’s fine. I thought we did a really nice job with the offense.”

The Rebels broke the single-season program record for home runs, previously held by the 2022 national title team. Hunter Elliott was that team’s co-ace as a freshman. He once again stepped up for his team as the Rebels stared down elimination.

Ole Miss ran through its top-end bullpen arms in an opening-round loss to 4-seed Murray State.

Elliott gave up his most hits (8) this season, but extended to six complete innings, including four scoreless.

Ole Miss will play the loser of Georgia Tech (41-17) and Murray State (40-13) on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+. Included is full postgame reaction from the Ole Miss Spirit.
