‘Probably our best hitter’: Watch Ryan Moerman stay hot in another Ole Miss baseball win

Ole Miss hitting coach Mike Clement was a little worried about the Rebels’ power potential back during fall intrasquad practices.
Slugger Will Furniss even admitted the Rebel sluggers were dominated by the pitchers.
Turns out the offense was just fine. Riley Maddox and Co. were, actually, THAT good, too.
No. 24 Ole Miss hit two home runs and Maddox limited Wright State to two hits and no runs with five strikeouts and four walks in 5.0 innings of an 8-3 win on Saturday.
“Kind of turned another gear the last couple of innings,” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said of Maddox. “Was able to get some punch-outs. Kind of labored a little bit in those middle innings.”
Maddox picked up his second win of the year.
Ole Miss (9-1) will go for its second straight weekend sweep on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. CT. Wright State (3-5) will throw lefty Chet Lax (0-1, 9.00 ERA) opposite Rebel RHP Mason Nichols (1-0, 5.14 ERA).

Illinois transfer Ryan Moerman hit his fourth home run of the season, as did junior Judd Utermark.
“He had a tough fall, but from January on he’s swung it as well as anybody,” Bianco said. “Through the first 10 games probably our best hitter. Proud of him.
“He’s been terrific. He’s hit some home runs, but some really good at-bats. Even today smoked a double. Smoked the ball to center field. I don’t think we have a guy in the lineup that’s swinging it better than him.”
