No. 16 Ole Miss heads to No. 22 Missouri looking to rebound from back-to-back SEC losses.

The Rebels are 15-4 overall, including a 4-2 mark in league play. Three of their losses came by a combined six points, including a stunning, late-game collapse Tuesday against Texas A&M in Oxford. Ole Miss picked up its first-ever Top 5 road win at Alabama just last week.

Ole Miss is one of eight Top 25 NET teams with four or more Quadrant 1 losses. The Rebels have five Q1 wins, compared to just three last season, when they won 20 games for the first time in five years.

Their resume is boosted by such non-conference wins as at Louisville, 86-63. The Cardinals have won nine in a row (their last loss was December 14) and are now ranked in the Top 25.

Ole Miss is ranked No. 18 in the NET. The No. 13 ranking on January 20 and after the loss at rival Mississippi State is the highest in program history. The entire SEC is in the Top 100. Thirteen of 16 are inside the Top 50.

Ole Miss is one of eight in the Top 25. Four are in the Top 10. Saturday is the fourth straight game for the Rebels against a ranked opponent.

“As disappointing as the (Texas A&M) end was I think it’s really important we keep things in perspective,” Ole Miss second-year head coach Chris Beard said on RebTalk Thursday night. “It’s an 18-round fight. Got to have some short-term memory around here. We just got to bounce back and Saturday’s a great opportunity to do that.”

SERIES HISTORY

Ole Miss and Missouri first met in January of 2013. The Tigers were in their first season in the SEC and ranked No. 10 in the country.

The Rebels came out on top, 64-49, in their old coliseum, Tad Smith. Ole Miss lost the second matchup a month later, but strung together eight wins in a row in the series afterwards.

Ole Miss won both games last season, including an 84-78 road win in March. The Rebels held the Tigers to just 26 first-half points. Matthew Murrell had 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal. Murrell is in his fifth and final season as a Rebel.

Ole Miss holds a 7-4 advantage in Columbia.

SCOUTING MISSOURI

Missouri, like Ole Miss, is 15-4 (4-2) on the season. The Tigers picked up notable non-conference wins over then-No. 1 Kansas and California. Their four SEC wins came against LSU, Vanderbilt, No. 5 Florida and Arkansas. They’re No. 26 in the NET.

Duke transfer Mark Mitchell is the Missouri leader in points (13.4) and rebounds (5.0). Caleb Grill has made 38 3s, the most of any Tiger, including three games with six or more.

Missouri is third in the nation in both free throw attempts per game (28.1) and makes per game (20.2). The Tigers are averaging 36.7 bench points, the fourth-most nationally. Their +4.4 turnover margin is No. 17 in the NCAA.

Head coach Dennis Gates, in his third season, has 48 total wins at Missouri. The Tigers were 25-10 in his debut campaign. He previously led Cleveland State to the postseason twice in three seasons as head coach.
