Franchise Player: Overreaction Monday! Dart could put Ole Miss QB race in a chokehold
It’s Overreaction Monday in this edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).
Luke Altmyer got banged up in his start against Central Arkansas, a blowout Ole Miss win on Saturday. Jaxson Dart, who replaced him at quarterback with less than a minute left in the second quarter, shined.
“It wasn’t something where medical pulled him,” third-year head coach Lane Kiffin said of Altmyer’s injury. “He was hurt. I was putting him back in there in the second half and he just said he would go but he wasn’t 100 percent.
“I thought (Dart) was doing really good. He had one series where he threw the slant in the dirt to JJ (Henry). I thought he did some good things. Got us three points in the two-minute drive at the end of the (first) half. Good. Still young.”
Dart is expected to get the nod at Georgia Tech.
If he does, and shows out, he has a real opportunity to take control of what has been a months-long quarterback battle.

“I think for me, I learned about myself,” Dart said after the Ole Miss win over UCA. “You really just gotta be prepared every single play and never know what’s going to happen. You never know when your your number is going to be called.
“So I think that’s that’s something that I learned a lot tonight.”
Ben Garrett and David Johnson discuss, as well as provide their thoughts on the little Ole Miss thinking currently surrounding freshman running back Quinshon Judkins.
Also, a head-turning commitment prediction has been submitted for four-star 2024 QB Walker White, and Ole Miss had plenty to check off on their UCA to-do list. How’d the Rebels fare?
