Here’s a brief excerpt from the extended conversation.
BEN: “The biggest thing today is (Oregon’s) Dan Lanning has announced he’s staying at Oregon. Now the question becomes who’s next (at Alabama). Nobody wants to be the guy to follow Nick Saban; they want to be the guy that follows the guy that follows Nick Saban. That includes Lane as well.
“Now, if Lane was offered this job, Ole Miss fans would need to be tossing and turning at night worried about him taking it. But I don’t think it gets to that. I think (Florida State’s) Mike Norvell might next.

ZACH: “I think it’s Mike Norvell, Kalen DeBoer (Washington). I don’t think Alabama goes the NFL route. I saw Andy Staples put together a quick hot list and (Mike) Vrabel was on it. He’s going to the Patriots.
“With the expanded playoff and what (Kiffin’s) bringing in in 2024, and, now, seemingly, the largest road block in his career is no longer there, I don’t see any reason to go to ‘Bama. The immense pressure to follow Nick Saban? I also think, fair or not, Lane Kiffin’s record against ranked opponents would be held against him if it got to the point where he was a candidate at Alabama.”
