Ole Miss receiver Dontario Drummond declares for NFL Draft
Now that the Sugar Bowl has come and gone and Ole Miss has closed the book on the 2021 season, the next chapter for several players are being revealed.
Running back Jerrion Ealy announced during his postgame press conference on Saturday that he had played his final game as a Rebel then declared for the NFL Draft via his Instagram account minutes later.
On Sunday the next Rebel to announce their plans took place as Dontario Drummond said his goodbyes and made his intentions of following Ealy to the NFL Draft known.
“Wow! What an incredible journey this has been for me here at Ole Miss!” Drummond’s announcement read. “I’d like to thank God for blessing me with such a great opportunity to attend such a great university! To my coaches and teammates, you all have played such a huge role in helping me mature, grow and become the man I am today and I can’t thank you guys enough.”
In what became his final game as a Rebel, Drummond led the team in receiving with nine receptions for 102 yards in the Sugar Bowl. He finishes the season as the team’s leading receiver with 85 receptions for 1,132 yards and eight touchdowns.

Yeah, I think Drummond will play a long time at the next level,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said after the Sugar Bowl. “He will be a great special teams player, even though we don’t utilize him on that stuff, in the core of special teams. Really strong, hard to bring down. Played through a lot of injuries and really had a real special year and great kid.”
The receivers room is going to be minus at least two when spring drills begin as Braylon Sanders also played his final game as a Rebel on Saturday.
The offense is going to look drastically different in 2022 and newly hired Charlie Weis, Jr. will have work to do in work to do as more than just Ealy and Drummond could decide to transfer or head for the NFL in the coming days and weeks.
