Ole Miss soccer, off to best start in five years, now has highest-ever Top 25 ranking
Ole Miss soccer is off to its best start (5-0-1) since 2017.
The Rebels also now hold the program’s highest-ever Top 25 ranking.
Ole Miss on Tuesday was announced as the No. 9 team in the country in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, which surpasses the previous mark of No. 12 back in 2015 and earlier this season.
The Rebels moved up four spots after a 5-0 win over La Tech and a 2-1 win over UCF.
“Great weekend,” head coach Matt Mott said. “Great week for us, really. Last Thursday, we beat La Tech at home in a dominating performance. Just a really good defensive performance.
“We’re playing very well. Really happy with the team. Playing at a good level. Defensively, we’ve been very, very good, which is really important this time of year. We’ve got one more weekend coming up this weekend before we head into SEC play.”
Ole Miss has scored 19 goals this month, tied for the eighth-most in the nation.
Senior defender Taylor Radecki is the nation’s assist leader.
Rebel keeper Ashley Orkus, meanwhile, is one of five players nationally with five shutouts. She’s allowed all of one goal in six games.
“Ashley has made a save in every game that’s either kept a lead or a clean sheet,” Mott said. “She’s just been phenomenal.”

Ole Miss soccer will look to keep its strong start going with a pair of home matches against Western Kentucky on Thursday and Southern Miss on Sunday.
“Would love for people to come out and see the team,” Mott said. “They’re a fun team to watch. We put a lot of pressure on teams, and we’re working really hard. We’re very, very deep.
“The team’s really believing right now and scoring some good goals. Overall, as a team, we’re defending great. It’s a total team effort. Our back line has just been rock solid. Playing five guys back there and rotating through. They’ve all been really good.”
