The loss to Georgia was a stinger for Ole Miss as it erased the outside chance of squeaking into the College Football Playoffs if it managed to win out the next two games.

Instead, the Rebels are out of the race but still have items on the table to play for, including a historic 11-win season. First things first is taking care of ULM on Saturday in the home finale.

As far as the CFP rankings are concerned now for Ole Miss it is all about placement and keeping a close eye on a few other teams and where they are residing in the rankings the next three weeks.

The Rebels loss did not damage them too much where a New Year’s Six bowl bid is concerned. They fell four spots to No. 13 in Tuesday’s newest rankings. The only obstacle that could keep them from its second NY6 game in three years is No. 9 Missouri.

Coming off their win at Tennessee this past weekend the Tigers have leapfrogged Ole Miss in the top-tier bowl pecking order, moving up five spots in this week’s rankings. Of the latest bowl projections this week the Rebels were still slotted in the Peach Bowl in two of them, but back in the Citrus Bowl slot in the other four.

Missouri finishes the regular season with games against Florida and Arkansas and either might be a landmine for the Tigers dream season though they will probably be favored in both. Along with the Warhawks, Ole Miss then plays at Mississippi State on Thanksgiving in the annual Egg Bowl to wrap up its regular season.

Beyond what the Tigers do the next two Saturdays there is also what the rest of the Top 12 of the CFP rankings do the final two weeks. That will also play a role in the Rebels postseason fate.
