The tight end room at Ole Miss is quietly becoming stacked, at least on paper, and two of them have been tabbed for a national award watch list.

Michael Trigg and Caden Prieskorn were named to the John Mackey Award preseason watch list. The national award preseason watch lists continue to roll out this week and into next week with Ole Miss being well represented so far.

Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, offensive lineman Micah Pettus and defensive lineman JJ Pegues have also been named to preseason watch lists this week.

The duo of Trigg and Prieskorn were among 48 other FBS tight ends and 10 out of Southeastern Conference named to the watch list, which was announced by the Friends of John Mackey on Friday. The award is given out annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.

Prieskorn, the former Memphis tight end, was named a semifinalist to the for the Mackey Award last season. For Trigg is this a return to the preseason watch list after earning the distinction last August.

Ole Miss bolstered its tight end room this offseason by signing Prieskorn out of the transfer portal. The move was one that provided more pass protection skill and blocking skill with Prieskorn.

Since spring practices both Prieskorn and Trigg have formed a relationship and the two are working in sync on the field.

“I think we have a pretty good relationship,” Trigg said of his new teammate. “When we go (to a two tight end set) that is a big help to me because (Prieskorn) is a lot bigger than me. He’s bit stockier and takes on the bigger blocks and I get the other blocks. I think it’s a great package.”

Prieskorn, who has already been named a preseason All-SEC third team selection by Phil Steele, played in 29 games at Memphis after joining the team as a walk-on in 2019. In his career, he hauled in 55 catches for 681 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, Prieskorn was named first team All-AAC by both Phil Steele and PFF after leading Memphis in receiving yards (602) and tied for the lead in touchdown receptions (7).
